Spring is (almost) in the air!

Warmer, sunnier days mean we’ve been playing outside, getting muddy, finding bugs, and even spotting a few flowers peeking out of the February ground.

I’ve put together a few updates about the happenings here at WonderWild.

New at WonderWild: Portfolios

Every learner now as a digital portfolio at Prism.Guide included with their enrollment. I share with parents all the amazing things their kids get up to here, the joyful moments, growing relationships, learning subjects, skills, and interests that arise. Parents can add entries from their child’s experiences at home, or add accounts for siblings not enrolled at WonderWild, making it a complete portfolio of your homeschooling journey.

Ready for a Visit?

Our next Open House is Febrary 27th from noon – 3pm. Bring your kids, and stay and play for awhile! It’s a great chance to poke around our little schoolhouse cabin, ask any questions you have, and see if WonderWild is right for your family.

New Policies: Advance Reservations and Drop-In Days

As a small program, it is difficult to guarantee openings months in advance, but I wanted to make this possible for those of you looking ahead to the fall. New families can now reserve a spot for up to a year in the future with a non-refundable deposit of $250. This is fully applied to your tuition/fees when you begin.

I’ve also created an option for your child to join an occasional class. The drop-in day rate is $65/child. You must have already completed enrollment and paid the one-time per-family enrollment fee to use this option. This option is subject to availability on a day-by-day basis.

See Tuition & Fees for more enrollment information.

WonderWild Blog

And one final note: we have a blog now! I’ve written more about our new portfolios, an article about how I evaluate “risky play” in our program, and a look at how we use electronic media at WonderWild. Keep checking back there for new writing.

Big Thank You!

Whether you’ve already enrolled, are thinking about, or are just following along with the WonderWild story, I really appreciate all the community support!

Thank you very much!

Hello homeschoolers, friends, and community! Here’s a peek into how WonderWild is unfolding after our first week.

The class has settled right in, exploring, creating, and bringing laughter to our little cabin. You don’t have to explain self-directed learning to kids! They already know how to dive in whole-heartedly! The space is starting to feel like an imagination laboratory, with new possibilities in every corner.

The kids and I are just getting to know each other, but it also seems like the connections have clicked right into place. I’m honored to support them as they follow their curiosity where it leads.

Thank you to all of you who are part of this new community, whether you’re enrolled, considering, or simply cheering us on. It means a lot to have your support.

How You Can Help “Loose parts” are a key component of self-directed learning, and they’re mostly items discarded from elsewhere. As the kids stretch their creativity, we’re going to need a lot of this stuff! Check out this new page on our website to learn more: Loose Parts + Donation List

We’re Hiring! Do you know someone who’s curious and friendly and loves playing with kids? We’re looking for an afternoon assistant – about 7 hours a week, $15-$20/hr based on experience. Could even be a good role for an older homeschooled teen. Send ’em our way!

December 26, 2025

Welcome to the very first WonderWild newsletter. I’m so glad you’re here!

In between holiday celebrations, I’ve been busy bringing the WonderWild space to life. The Focus Room is filling up with games, books, and projects to explore. The hideaway in the Quiet Room is coming together as a cozy retreat, and the outdoor mud kitchen is officially ready for messy creations.

The Play Room is still a work in progress. The climbing wall is under construction, and I’ve learned that sourcing enough balls to fill a ball pit is more challenging than I expected! It’s been a delight watching the space slowly take shape.

Behind the scenes, I’ve been sharing announcements about WonderWild with the homeschool community. Starting mid-year means many families have their plans already locked in, but I know there are plenty out there still looking for just the right fit. If you know anyone who might be interested or know a great place online to post, I’d be so grateful if you’d help spread the word.

I’ve heard some questions from families about what self-directed learning actually looks like in practice. Because of that, I added a new page to the website with more detail about how it works. You can read more about Wild Learning here.

That’s the update for now! Please reach out with any questions, and I’m really looking forward to seeing some of you in January.
